La Vague creates clothes and prints
Collection FW 14-15 « Danse d'Automne »
Ready-to-wear Women, Cacharel, Paris
La Vague had the honour to meet founder and CEO of ready-to-wear company Cacharel Jean Bousquet in 2013, on the occasion of a thematic exhibition on landscapes in Paris which included photographic works and experimental videos on colour, movement and space. Jean Bousquet saw the connection between his brand, the history of Liberty prints and La Vague’s highly visual approach, and commissioned print fabrics for a capsule clothing collection. Together with the company’s creative team and stylist Tatsuya Harada, La Vague ultimately took on the art direction for Cacharel’s entire autumn-winter womenswear collection for 2014-15, a project that lasted 6 months.
Jean Bousquet’s intention was to use La Vague’s existing creations to breathe freshness and energy into his brand’s new flagship collection and channel an inspiring, sensory artistic universe, infused with nature and lightness as well as more primitive elements, into printed fabrics, a total style and look for young women, while drawing on the full potential of his styling studio. The prints were designed – drawn, painted, photographed, assembled, etc. – like paintings. A story was written. This is how Danse d’automne (“Autumn Dance”), La Vague’s signature contribution to Cacharel, was born.
La Vague supported the entire creative process for the collection up to its launch and sales via the team’s art-direction department, as well as the styling and design of the new sales spaces – furnishings included – at the Printemps department store. The prints were worn by celebrities, the collection was displayed throughout the fashion and trends press. Danse d’automne was a notable success, the pride of La Vague’s art directors. A powerful, unique and prestigious encounter, and the successful outcome of a creative process that had united artistic experimentation with a vision customised for the fashion sector.
